Joseph Hamel


Joseph Hamel is an Associate Attorney at Yerman & Jia where his practice focuses on employment-based immigration, EB-5 investor visas and general business and corporations law.  Prior to working at Yerman & Jia, Joseph spent five years working as an e-discovery attorney throughout New York City on a wide array of large scale litigation matters.  Joseph worked on many large commercial litigation matters concerning contract disputes, regulatory investigations into large corporate mergers, and general corporate litigation.  He has also worked with large pharmaceutical organizations during federal regulatory compliance matters helping the clients establish proof of their compliance with various marketing regulations.  From 2012 through early 2014 he worked as part of a large legal team representing the government in its claims of fraud against 16 of the largest banks connected with the 2008 financial crisis.

Joseph graduated from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Arts double major in Political Science and Psychology with a minor in Arab culture in 2002.  He graduated with a J.D. from Brooklyn Law school in 2011 and is admitted to practice law in the State of New York.  During law school Joseph took part in the Consumer Bankruptcy externship program assisting with various individuals’ Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filings in the Federal Bankruptcy Court.  Joseph also took part in Brooklyn Law School’s Capital Defender, Federal Habeas Clinic and Innocence Project, working as part of a team, he assisted in drafting an appeal to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals for an Alabama Death Row inmate based on previously undisclosed evidence.
